ParentsAs a 'family-focused' church we have developed a reputation locally for our work with young people and children. However, we recognise that the most important people for healthy children and young people are their parents! What a responsibility! Most parents quickly realise that when they unpacked their new baby (?!) there was no instruction manual! Of course, for the dads that's not a problem because we don't look at instruction manuals anyway! As with all the important things in life it is only with experience that we learn and grow and flourish - and opportunities to share our experiences and learn from others experiences are invaluable. With these thoughts in mind we have been working with an Early Years Centre to deliver parenting courses.
Confident Parents, Confident Kids (CPCK) This is an 8 week course that is designed to give strategies for dealing with the behaviour of 18month to 7 years old children. Through qualified trainers there will be a variety of input, play, discussion and homework (!) with the course centred on the things you are already doing, and looking at what others do to enhance and strengthen the strategies you have for helping your child grow. This course is suitable for all parents (Mums and Dads) of all children. Our first course in January 2007 was a resounding success, with parents recording a number of different strategies that they had learned or appreciated and how much greater confidence they have when dealing with parenting issues. If you would like more details of our next course (starting September 30th 2008) or to add your name to a waiting list then please Contact Us. CPCK is the first course that we are offering, however, we want to deliver a range of courses over time. Watch this space for details of courses for parents of Junior aged children (8 to 11 years), and Senior school aged young people (12 to 18 years). Of course, if you are facing particular issues that require immediate support we would be happy for you to Contact Us.
