Leadership Team
Church Secretary : Ian Harding As the Church Secretary Ian is the main contact for the church, keeps the church records, oversees the hiring of the building and deals with church correspondence. He makes day-to-day decisions (not important ones he says!) and is involved in numerous other tasks. Basically, if it is not anyone else’s area of responsibility, speak to Ian! Ian is happy for you to talk to him about anything, and if he doesn't have the answer himself, he will point you in the right direction to someone who will. Something you might not know: He has played a lot of rugby, ending up at Portsmouth where he played alongside the now RC Archbishop of Westminster!
Church Treasurer : Hazel Tea As the Treasurer Hazel has responsibility for day-to-day management of the finances and for keeping good financial records. She also ensures funds are spent effectively, and keeps the diaconate and the Church Members informed of the financial situation. If that wasn't enough she also shares responsibility with Ken (see below) for the Children’s & Young People’s Work. If you would like to make a financial contribution to the running of the church, for the redevelopment fund or overseas mission, or want to find about Gift Aid then please speak to Hazel. Something you might not know: Hazel organised an overseas mission conference for 250 people in Thailand!
Deacon with responsibility for Worship: Sandie Davis
As a Deacon she has responsibility for Worship within the church. This covers music; dance; drama; sound & vision; leading worship; overview of Sunday & other services. Do you have any musical talent that you are hiding? Can you sing, play drums, flute or another instrument? Would you like to get involved in dance or drama? Interested in sound and vision? If so Sandie would love to hear from you. Also if you have experience of other forms of worship that have been helpful to you and would like to share them with her please do. Something you might not know: Sandie has driven a Chieftain Tank—and has a collection of over 200 frogs!
Deacon with responsibility for Buildings : Jim Manktelow
As a Deacon Jims responsibilities cover a vast array! Health & Safety; Buildings; Grounds; Church Flowers; Equipment & Redevelopment. If you have any concerns about the building or grounds, about health & safety issues or want to talk about the provision of equipment please speak to Jim about it. Or if you have any skills in flower arranging or building maintenance and would like to play a part in caring for the building and grounds he would love to hear from you. Something you might not know: Jim belongs to a couple of walking clubs and he goes out with them weekly.
Deacon with responsibility for Mission: David Barnes
As a Deacon David has responsibility for Mission within the church. This covers such things as Alpha, Parenting Course, Gentle Exercise Class, Marriage Course, Churches Together in Denmead Reps and Overseas mission. Mission is very broad and David defines it as Carrying God's word outside the front door of the Church. Making the Church valuable to the people around and beyond Denmead by demonstrating God’s love. Any ideas you have about ways in which the church could be getting involved in our community please speak to him, he would be pleased to hear from you. Something you might not know: David likes to draw and paints in watercolour.
Deacon with responsibility for Children & Young People: Ken Windsor
As a Deacon Ken shares responsibility for overseeing the Children's & Young People’s Work within the church with Hazel. This covers Noah’s Ark, Junior Praise, SD Club & Genesis. If you have an interest in being involved with any of these groups but not sure where you might fit, please speak to Ken. Also if you have any ideas of how we can add value to what we do, again please speak to him—he would be more than happy to talk to you about it. Something you might not know: Ken is a biker at heart—although these days its only when the suns shining!
Pastoral Minister
As a pastoral minister Danny’s primary role is the oversight of all areas of the church, driving vision and strategic development. If you want to explore spiritual questions or develop your relationship with God please speak to Danny, he would be very happy to spend some time with you. Or if you are looking to get more involved in church life but not sure how or where, Danny would be glad to point you in the right direction. Something you might not know: In his time Danny has been a Gothic Punk, and a bearded environmental campaigner!
