Denmead Baptist Church

Childrens & Youth Work

We believe that children and young people are NOT the church of tomorrow - they ARE part of the church of today. We want our children and young people to grow in their knowledge of God, to have fun whilst they are doing that, and in a safe environment - yet able to face the challenge of Jesus Christ as they grow into His disciples.  This page is sub-divided into age groups that might help you locate the information you need about the group(s) available for you, or your child.

In 2006 we have been very excited about our new 'Yoof' Cabin!  BuDanny opening the Cabinilt because we have run out of space on Sunday mornings this well equipped, warm and decorated Cabin is the new focus for our Youth activities.   It demonstrates how serious we are about investing in our children and young people.

Sunday Childrens Work - Creche

We recognise that our pastoral care starts with the very youngest members of our church family.  We offer a creche facility that enables the youngest children to play in a safe environment on the fringe of the worship space - far enough but not too far from parental care if needed!

Mid-week Children's Work - Noah's Ark

Our parent/carer and toddler groups are very successful and widely supported.  Currently running on a Wednesday morning (10.00-11.30am) and a Wednesday afternoon (1.30-3.00pm), these groups provide a safe environment for children to play and for parents/carers to chat together.  Story-time provides low-key Christian input, with action songs and lots of fun.

Breaking news!
In September 2007 Noah's Ark will extend to three sessions - the new session being Thursday morning at 10.00am to 11.30am.  If you have been unsuccesful on a Wednesday then please Contact us to enrol for this new group!

Mid-week Children's Work - SD Club

SD Club offers an opportunity for children of Junior School age to come together once per month for some fun and games, food, friendship and a short Christian-themed talk.  Friends from outside the church family are encouraged and welcome.  An outing to Moors Valley Country Park in September 2005 was very successful!

Sunday Youth Work - Junior Praise (Seniors)

Junior Praise is a lively mix of games, activities, Bible teaching, craft-work, drama, singing, puppets, etc.  Children of Secondary School age form one of the core groups to our Sunday morning children's work.

Sunday Evening

Most Sunday evenings in term-term (except the first Sunday evening - see Ignite below) young people of Secondary School age come together for a social time of fun and games, chat and food hosted in the home of two church members.  The young people are involved in choosing the content of this group and are encouraged to take responsibility for each other.

IgniteIgnite Worship

On the first Sunday of each month an extended youth group is run by Denmead Baptist Church and All Saints Church of England.  The focus is on fun and food and opening opportunities for young people to bring friends who are not part of the church community.  Opportunities exist to see this group grow in contemporary worship and faith through the Excite! event.

This group meets for many different activities each month - bowling, ice-skating, murder-mystery parties to name just a few.  We also link up with Solent Youth For Christ and take part in their activities.  If you would like more information about what is happening then please Contact Us.

Ablaze

This is a joint group between Denmead Baptist Church and All Saints Church of England looking to work with young people as they make the transition from young person to young adult.  Ad hoc meetings are arranged, mostly of a social/sporting nature (swimming, bowling, ice-skating, BBQs, etc), through which friendship and pastoral care can be offered.

Child Protection

We take our work with children and young people very seriously - recognising from our core values that People matter to God and to us!  All our leaders have been checked by the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB), and we have appointed a Deacon with oversight for Children's Work (Mrs hazel Tea). a Responsible Person (Mrs Linda Sutton) and a Children's Advocate (Mrs Karen Foster).  There is a termly Youth Leaders Forum for support, information, and planning so that our children and young people's work can grow in a co-ordinated and accountable way.
